Well once your groovy menus are done your video is all encoded how's it all going to work? You don't just copy it onto a DVD and let the player work out what to do. DVD Players by their very nature are not very bright and more likely to spit it out. So it needs to be authored and there are rules about this. Even if its just a bit of video the DVD player needs to know what to do with it.
On a typical menu there are buttons so each button has got to do something and we mean something even if it's just to go to another menu. We can help you with navigation rules but you are telling a story so its best to stick to the plot. Also this is the point where you sort out your regions and any copy protection you might want.
So that's it really!
